Top Spots to Go Fishing with Kids in Bell County

Central Texas Sportsmen's Club (Located near Temple Lake Park)

• Offers an enclosed floating fishing dock with indoor and outdoor fishing
• Membership required for ALL ADULTS. Initial ember fees cost $125 for the year but they offer discounts to military (veterans and active) and first responders. Renewal fees are typically $50-$75 for each year 
• Each registered member can bring children up to the age of 17 but must accompany them at all times. 
• Species caught: crappie, white bass, catfish, bluegill, and carp. 
• Tip: Excellent spot for crappie, bluegill, and largemouth 

Bell County Sportsman’s Club (Located in Morgans Point)

• Offers an enclosed floating fishing dock with indoor and outdoor fishing
• Membership required for ALL ADULTS. Please contact the club for accurate membership fees
• Theater chair seating on the inside around the 2 fishing wells and wood benches outside for fishing off the dock
• Species caught: crappie, white bass, catfish, bluegill, and carp. 
• Tip: Excellent spot for crappie and catfish

Leona Park (Located on the north end of Lake Belton in Moffat area)

• Offers fishing underneath Hwy 36 bridge along the bank and near the floating dock where boats load and unload
• Species caught: Crappie, Catfish, Carp
• Tip: Great spot with adequate parking and short distance walk to the bank. In the spring the crappie fishing is real good when they’re spawning. Minnows under a bobber work best, or using a jig under a cork and casting out and reeling back in. This spot is also popular in the summertime for catfish anglers using shad or cut chicken liver.

Temple Lake Park

• Small fishing dock located on the left hand side of the road before you get to the boat ramp
• Some parking spaces available
• Species caught: Catfish, Carp and Bluegill

B.L.O.R.A

• Entry fee to the park (cost depends on veteran status) civilian cost is typically $10 per car
• Access to BLORA is currently limited to DoW ID Card Holders only until further notice. 
• Species caught: Catfish, Largemouth, Carp 
• Tip: Good area to fish for catfish and largemouth in the summertime along the bank 

Union Grove Park (Located closer towards Salado)

• Offers an open floating dock tucked back in the cove 
• Great parking with a short walk from the parking lot to the dock
• Species caught: Bluegill, Bass, Crappie

Dana Peak Park (Harker Heights)

• Offers good bank fishing to the left of the boat ramp, as well as lots of day use pavilions for families to enjoy
• Species caught: Bluegill, Bass, some catfish

Across the 2484 Bridge towards Salado (And directly across the bank line from Cedar Gap Park)

• Good bank fishing year-round with adequate parking on the dirt road. Be careful fishing during the rain as the dirt road can get real muddy and cause vehicles to get stuck. 

Carl Levin Park (Behind Rooms to Go in Harker Heights)

• Offers good bank fishing year-round. The park also includes a nice walking trail all around the pond/park.
• Texas Parks and Wildlife Department will stock the pond with stock-size rainbow trout in the winter months (Typically December through February). Check the website for accurate stocking date(s). 
• Species caught: Bluegill, small bass, rainbow trout in winter months 

Nolan Creek (Located behind the Gin Restaurant and down the street from Miller’s BBQ)

• Texas Parks and Wildlife Department will stock the pond with stock-size rainbow trout in the winter months (Typically December through February). Check the website for accurate stocking date(s). 
• The City of Belton will host 2 annual “Family Fun Fishing Days” where no fishing license is required, and there are prizes to the kids for the biggest fish. Poles and bait are sometimes provided by the city but are not always guaranteed. BE SURE to arrive early as this event is popular and can get crowded quickly! 
• Species caught: Rainbow trout (winter months, catfish, bluegill, and bass)
